This is an unashamedly promotional plug for my mum!

She is a knitter extraordinaire and has kept all three of my children in hats, cardis and blankets for the last 13 years. In fact some well loved items have been saved and passed from baby to baby, like my fave lime green cardi that little Rose now wears- it was knitted for her older sister Kia 13 years ago, how green is that ?!

Mum has finally bitten the bullet, overcome her technophobia and created a folksy shop to sell her Beanie Baby Hats. She uses beautifully soft cotton yarn- just right for little noggins.

Well Jemma, little Rose and I have had a great day out today, as wedding fayre exhibitors with Wirrals very own Flaunt Wedding Events at Hulme Hall, Port Sunlight.

It was our first time out since 'The Great Big Green Wedding Fayre' ... Ages we know! but what with our greenleaf baby boom this year, a focus on bringing together a wonderful season of garden inspired designs, a new christmas card range, a soon to be launched greenleaf boutique to buy our stationery online and the preparations for the next Great Big Green Wedding Fayre we have just been to busy until now.

A Big Thanks to Flaunt Wedding Events and all who attended the fayre, exhibitors and visitors, it was great fun for us meeting so many lovely people the standard and quality of goods and services on offer was fantastic!

We love browsing through fellow ethical suppliers websites and blogs to keep up to date with what's new and exciting out there.

On one such virtual ramble yesterday I came across The Hairy Growler (!)

Some suppliers of ethical jewellery are very visible across green wedding planning sites- other are a little harder to find, and we think The Hairy Growler is a hidden gem that must be shared. Jewellery designer Les collects up unloved and unwanted antique silver ware, anything from forks to platters, and breathes his magic into them, transforming mismatched objects into superbly intricate pieces of jewellery.

We love the fact that Les doesn't try to disguise a piece's origins-his website shows in detail the fascinating process of turning tableware into a wearable work of art. If you look carefully you can see that some of his bangles were forks in their last lives!

Les also micro cuts the most delicate natural designs from old coins and the bowls of spoons, creating beautiful brooches or earrings, and cuts the prongs from forks to create simply elegant silver bands.

This bespoke pack, requested by Philippa and Monty in Bristol contained 5 items of stationery each from two of our design ranges.

The couple requested a colour palette of vibrant pink and leafy green and the stationery was printed on a selection of our cotton, straw and feather papers, for them to choose from.

A speedy green affair!

Phew what a week! Amanda and I were approached by a
client at the end of last week who needed their invites,
erm now- eek!!

Our bride and groom to be have decided to get married asap-
this June, in fact and needed our help to let their friends and
family know quickly.

We happily got on with production and with the help of our
shiny new printer, needle and thread, set about making this
great variation of our jardin birds design- the colours chosen
by our bride have certainly put us in the mood for Spring!

We have asked our bride, Nicola (if she gets the time) to

write a piece for the blog on her super fast green wedding

Leafing through the June edition of Homes & Gardens magazine (ok so it's not all green, but I can dream, can't I?) I came across an article on Sweetpeas and Bumble Bees - a brand new website selling eco-friendly cut flowers grown here in the UK.

Florist, Ashley Munro Scott has thrown herself into this new business, finding the perfect location in a traditional English walled garden. The website is a fantastic find for green brides to be, as Ashley grows a wealth of flower and foliage varieties, just right for an eco bouquet.

Browsing through the website is hugely enjoyable- with a gallery of images showing the garden's progress- from it original uncultivated state, to the visually stunning end product.
Ashley also keeps fans up to date with an often hilarious Gardeners' blog tracking their story so far.
You will be in no doubt as to the reasons why we should all be opting for seasonally produced, home grown flowers if you check out the 'Why Buy Eco-friendly Flowers' section, detailing the negative impact of importing blooms and the highly positive aspects of growing flowers from seed here in the UK, using natural feeds and pest repellents.

Sweetpeas and Bumblebees grow over 400 varieties of flowers, including alliums, peonies, Old English Roses and Sweet Williams, and they offer a bespoke service for events and weddings, "A bride marrying next year could choose her flowers this year, then watch how they're cared for from seedling to bud." How Green is your Photographer?

Year by year more and more couples are bringing a more eco-focused ethos to their wedding planning and it’s absolutely brilliant that there are so many cool suppliers out there that can offer services that are both green and chic. Going green no longer means munching on lentils and wearing sandals - in 2010 eco-chic is where it’s at !!

So you’ve invested in some gorgeous eco stationery, thought about a locally sourced organic menu and perhaps a honeymoon destination that doesn’t rack up thousands of polluting air miles but what about your wedding photography?

By the very nature of the industry there are inherent difficulties in taking a full eco approach - but unlike when green chat first started to become more common on the wedding circuit - it’s no longer enough to just use the “I only shoot with digital” mantra. Yes, of course it’s a step in the right direction over film but photographers can go so much further. You could perhaps think about the location of your photographer to cut car miles - some will travel the length and breadth of the country and in fact the world to shoot a wedding but is there someone on your doorstep that can meet your needs?

Also in terms of location do also ask questions about the source of any album products offered. It’s a real shame that the UK is currently saturated by albums flown in from New Zealand and Australia when there are lovely options created on home turf. Other things to look for include online proofing and green office and business management - perhaps through the use of renewable energy, good recycling policies and use of ethical banking to name a few.

Top of the list though has to be the person behind the lens. Wedding photography is about creating a collection of memories that will last across generations and so choosing someone that fits with your personal ethics and desired vibe for your wedding day is really important.

After all, happy smiley people are the key to relaxed and lovely images...

‘EmersonMade’ is a real favourite here at GreenLeaf Press with a modest chic style and beautiful blush tones their hand dyed and hand stitched blooms are by far the most contemporary of our selection. The website is must see not only brides to be but for any girl who likes to express her femininity smartly. With a collection that goes far beyond what you see here and photography that is light, crisp and full of creative quirkiness Emersonmade is just an inspirational one stop shop for sophisticated occasional accessories!

We asked Emerson how they might me considered green here in the UK market their reply was...

“We have used everything from natural spices to mild dyes. We try to use as environmentally friendly products as we can. Our fabric is all natural linen but not 100% organic. We use all local vendors to minimize emissions and support local businesses and use all of our scraps for other projects like stuffing for our mouse and pillows.” Ryan, EmersonMade

They do ship to the UK as I am sure does artist Jude Miller which for some might be stretching the footprint a bit too far but you could easily convince yourself that if your not going to be buying blooms from a UK grower buying from EmersonMade or Jude Miller is at least equal too and probably even less of a footprint than buying real cut flowers from abroad, especially when you consider that...

‘Over two-thirds of flowers on sale in Britain come from abroad. The country we import the most from is Holland, with large quantities also coming from Kenya, Colombia and Israel. But you might well find proteas from South Africa, anthuriums from the Caribbean, carnations from Morocco and roses from India in a bouquet from your local florist… As with food, a greater distance from the country of origin to the UK does not necessarily equate to a higher carbon footprint for cut flowers. A study conducted by Cranfield University found that 12,000 rose stems grown in Kenya incurred a carbon footprint of 2,200kg CO2, while the equivalent supply from Holland generated 35,000kg CO2’ Carolyn Fry guardian.co.uk,

You will have to let your own green conscience be the judge. We just think they are too lovely and noteworthy to leave out.

Martha Stewart of course never fails to indulge us with her ‘pretty pretty’ styled images and this peaches and cream selection of paper and fabric flowers are no exception. The huge paper ‘dahlia pom pom’ decorations look extraordinary and would no doubt have the same light and bouncy effect in any colour scheme set when set against a white backdrop. You could easily make your own but it you’re not the hands on type you can buy pom poms here in the UK try http://paperpompom.co.uk. The ribbon bouquet and boutonniere are just lovely and we just love the exquisite detailing. If you’re the creative type go to the Martha Stewart website for DIY instructions on how to make them.

Gentle elegance is something I often learn from Jemma here at Greenleaf. We so often approach designing in completely different ways. I burst with a riot of colour and pattern and Jemma almost always begins with quiet contemplative, subtle hues and beautiful drawings. Combine this however with a similar eclectic taste and a fertile eye for great design, our distinctive mix is really what makes collaboration at GreenLeaf Press so dynamic and exciting.

I pay homage to Jemma in this last photo montage and present you with a beautiful simple palette of cream, white and a little antique tea. Nothing is lost! I don’t miss the colour because here the beauty is held within layers of texture, shape and a delicate interplay of gloss and matt surfaces.

On the subject of DIY we love the fact that most of our green brides do have that desire to be creative and get stuck in. Not for you the 'off the peg' wedding or keeping up with the Jones'!

We see some great projects when looking for inspiration and we will be sharing these with you along the way. To begin with we have found some great workshops, both locally, and in the capital, where you can learn valuable new skills to make your wedding your own!

A Quintessential Garden Wedding!

As the warmer seasons of spring and summer now approach it’s no surprise that we decided to create a style board all about the quintessential garden wedding. It is definitely a favourite here at greenleaf press!

The rustic dining table and quirky ‘pucker up’ images set a blissfully cheerful scene... full of the handmade and personal collaged to create something truly romantic and charming. For us there could be nothing better than the thought of an intimate soiree with pretty decorations, great food, good tunes, and your very closest family and friends to help whirl your special day into a night of dancing under the ambient light of lanterns and a starry sky (Lantern image from www.cocokelley.blogspot.com ).

The principal colours of this scheme are plum, cherry, and a blush pink, with a saffron and cinnamon accent. But we think it is always nice to have an additional colour surprise and so have added the sage and mint making it a wonderfully refreshing palette.
As this is your special day why not make a very unique statement and have a wedding logo or monograph designed as a personal signature to be applied to your stationery, favours and mementoes. Most design or stationers will offer this as a bespoke service, we certainly do... just ask!

On the subject of stationery ... we chose ‘Jardin-birds’ in cherry and plum, from our ‘Jardin Collection’, printed on a beautifully tactile straw paper this is a simple but bold and versatile design. Handmade paper flower arrangements will easily compliment or be a great alternative to real flowers. The beautiful button bouquets and corsages shown are a great green alternative to imported cut flowers. Button bouquets are popular in the US, but we can’t find any producers over here- let us know if you come across any. Amanda and I are thrilled to be starting the New Year with our very own blog. GreenLeaf Press is our business and we love creating beautiful eco chic stationery to complement our clients’ events.
At the moment our focus is on weddings (of the DIY/Green variety) and we look forward to sharing the beautiful products and ideas we come across with you.

Our design process is a bit like planning a wedding- we have lots of little scribbles, textures and bits of inspiration, but pulling them together to create a beautiful final design can take a lot of preparation and even a few tears!
To help us in our design work we often pull together inspiring images to help inform our work and develop a colour palette. We have realised that these mood boards could also help to inspire you when planning your special day and have decided to share them with you as we work.
